Application of compound carraghenates suppositories after procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids

Abstract

AIM: To observe the effect of compound carraghenates suppositories after the procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids (PPH). METHODS: One hundred and sixteen patients with hemorrhoids were divided into two groups. The patients in the trial group were given compound carraghenates suppositories via rectum and the patients in the control group were given chlorhexidine acetate suppositories via rectum just after the procedure, twice a day beginning from (d 1) after PPH. The symptom of edema, bleeding and pain were observed at d 2 and d 7 after the treatment. RESULTS: The total effective rates for pain were (97 %) in the trial group and 58 % in the control group at (d 2) after PPH with significant difference (P(0.01).) The total effective rates for edema were 92 % and (98 %) in trial group, 51 % and 71 % in control group at d 2 and d 7 after PPH(P0.01). But the total effective rates for bleeding of the two groups had no significant difference (P0.05). CONCLUSION: Compound carraghenates suppositories possess significant effect in edema and pain after PPH.
