Abstract
Fortress Besieged is a widely read novel. Qian Zhongshu, author of book, was acclaimed as the greatest scholar of 20th century, and cultural Kunlun Mountain. However, in this work, author bore enormous prejudice against female characters. The causes for this phenomenon are as follows. The first cause is originality, which suggests that author’s unique intention in writing decided formulation of characters and plot arrangement. The second one is nationality, which means that traditional Chinese culture and literature exerted invaluable influence on Qian Zhongshu, who argued that the Chinese learning be taken as essence. The third one is timeliness, which refers to collective unconscious of writers in context of patriarchy society that author could not escape from.
