Abstract

The well known nonlinear empirical relationships between porosity and consolidation pressure, porosity and permeability coefficient are applied to establish the nonlinear consolidation governing equation for over-consolidation of double-layered saturated soft clay foundation.Based on the semi-analytical method, the relevant program ODNCADOS for computation is developed.By using this program the consolidation behaviors of the foundation for various drainage conditions, time dependent loadings and actual overburden pressure conditions are investigated. The calculation results show that the settlement and rate of consolidation will be greater if the effect of stress history is taken into account. The magnitude of load and the pre-consolidation pressure as well as the variations of compressibility and permeability of each layer will significantly affect the consolidation behaviors.
