Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of leflunomide(LEF) on monocyte chemoattractant protein-l(MCP-1) in type 2 diabetic rats. Methods Thirty Wistar rats of eight weeks were established as diabetic models induced by STZ.Witar rats were divided into three groups:normal control rats, diabetic rats treated with LEF,diabetic rats treated with saline, with 10 rats in each group.Seven weeks later, laboratory data, kidney pathology, expressions of MCP-l and monocyte/macrophage cell surface antigen(ED-1) by inmmunohistochemistry were compared. Results Compared with the group of diabetic rats treated with saline, urinary albumin excretion of LEF treated rats were substantially decreased. The expressions of MCP-l and ED-l in LEF group were much lower than those in the diabetic rats treated with saline.LEF also improved the histological changes of diabetic rats. Conclusion LEF has some renal protective effects on type 2 diabetic rats by inhibition expression of MCP-l.
