Abstract

Objectives:To study the clinical features and the indications and assess surgical treatment of the thoracic and lumbar spinal metastases,lethod:21 cases of lumbar spinal metastases(13 men and 8 women, aged from 37 to 75 years which the average age of the 21 patients was 45.7 years.)underwent anterior tumor resection and instrumentation of internal fixation.Result:2 cases were death within 3 months after surgical 19 cases were followed up from 3 to 36 months, average 17.5 months. The pain of patients was relieved and the neurological status of the patients was maintained or improved. Conclusions:The surgical treatment of thoracic and lumbar spinal metastases could stabilize and reconstruct the spine, maintain or improve the neurological status of the patients, thus improve the life qualities in limited life experctancy patients,Endurance of the patient.Complete tumor resection decompression and intelnal fixation are the key to treatment.
