Comparison of the effects of epalrestat plus sildenafil with sildenafil alone on erectile dysfunction in type 2 diabetic patients

OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of combined treatment of epalrestat and sildenafil on type 2 diabetes mellitus patient with erectile dysfunction. METHODS 60 patients were randomly divided into two groups.The treatment group(n=30) was treated with epalrestat combined with sildenafil.The control group(n=30) was treated only with sildenafil. RESULTS Improvements in mean scores of IIEF-5 and EQS were significant in all patients compared with that of pretreatment(P0.01),the scores of the group with epalrestat and sildenafil improved more obviously than the group with sildenafil(P0.05). CONCLUSION Combined therapy of epalrestat and sildenafil was more effective than the single sildenafil for diabetic patients with erectile dysfunction.
