Integrated Study on Inter-Basin Water Diversion Measures to the Yellow River

The contradiction between supply and demand of water resources in the Yellow River is obvious because of serious lack of water resources.It is difficult to coordinate the contradiction between human use(production and domestic) and the ecological use of water resources depending on the Yellow River's own water resources.Therefore,it is necessary to compensate the shortage of water resources in the Yellow River by studying inter-basin water diversion schemes,for alleviating the contradiction of water supply and demand,and providing basic condition for the protection of water supply security,energy security,food security,and ecological security in the Yellow River and neighbor areas.In this paper,a lot of inter-basin diversion projects were discussed such as east route,middle route and west route projects of the South to North Water Transfer,Hanjiang-to-Weihe River Water Transfers Project and Xiaojiang River Water Diversion Project.It was important and necessary to accelerate the preliminary work of west route projects of the South to North Water Transfer Project through comparing the strengths and weaknesses of each project comprehensively.Considering the water attenuation in the Yellow River and the rigid water demand in the future,other inter-basin water diversion measures should be sought to minimize the contradiction of water supply and demand in the Yellow River.
