Inquisition and Analysis of Accidental Deaths Situation in Guangzhou(2003—2007)

Objective To learn accidental deaths in Guangzhou from 2003 to 2007.Methods All individual data of 4873 cases of accidental deaths from 2003 to 2007 in Guangzhou was provided by Health Bureau of Guangzhou.Accidental mortality rates and death causes were observed,and tendency with time-variation in accidental deaths was analyzed by Poisson regression model.Results The unintentional mortality rates significantly declined from 2003 to 2007 with a average decrease of 7.6%/one year.The unintentional mortality rate in male was much higher than that in female.The death rate with ages was J-shaped,and was asymmetric parabolic with age increase.The frequent causes were traffic accidents,suicides,poisoning,accidental falls,drowning and murder.The causes distribution of accidental deaths may differ with age groups.Conclusion The accidental mortality rates decreased over the past years,which may indicate that accidental mortality is preventable and avoidable.The rates and causes of accidental mortality differ by different crowds,various interventions should target different crowd to minimize the possibility of accidental mortality.
