Abstract

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine therapy on post-operative pulmonary infection and to reduce the economic costs and the suffering of patients. Methods: 67 subjects with post-operative pulmonary infection after cadiothoracic operations were randomly divided into two groups: 35 patients in the control group treated only with western medicine; 32 patients in the treatment group treated with Chinese traditional therapy based on the western medicine. Results: The average hospital stay in treatment group is shortened (P0.05), hospitalization charge for patients in the treatment group is significantly lower than that of the control group(P0.05). Conclusion: Integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine therapy is a better and reliable methods for treatment of post-operative pulmonary infection, especially in expectorant, antitussive and anti-inflammatory.
