Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effects of Forsus appliance in the treatment of Class Ⅱ malocclusion with mandibular retrusion during the peak stage of development. Methods Fifteen patients with Class Ⅱ malocclusion with mandibular retrusion were treated with Forsus appliance. At the beginning and the end of the treatment lateral cephalometric were taken and cephalometric analysis according to Pancherz's analysis were performed by Winceph 7.0 Cephalograms Analysis Software. Results The mandibular body length were increased by 3.84mm with ANB decreased 3.68°,SNB increased 3.20°.Overjet were decreased and molar relationship improved significantly, which was achieved mainly by the skeletal changes. Conclusion Pancherz's analysis can reflect the skeletal and dental effects quantitatively caused by functional appliances and is a direct and feasible evaluation method.Forsus appliance is effective to correct Class Ⅱ malocclusion at the peak stage of development. It can stimulate the mandibular growth and improve sagittal discrepancy and soft tissue profile convexity significantly.
