Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of modified Forsus appliance in the treatment of Class Ⅱ madibular retrusion by Pancherz. Methods: 30 children with Class Ⅱ malocclusion and mandibular retrusion were selected and treated with this new appliance.Cephalometric radiographs were taken and analyzed before(T1) and after treatment(T2) with Pancherz analysis.Students' t-test was used to determine if there were significant differences between the 2 time periods. Results: After 6-8 months of therapy, the profiles were obviously improved. The overjet was decreased by (5.0±2.8)mm,and the molar relationship was corrected to Class Ⅰ.SNB increased by(2.7±1.3)°,ANB decreased by(-2.5±1.2)°,and both had significant difference. Conclusion: Modified Forsus appliance combined with straight wire appliance can effectively stimulate the mandibular growth, balance the jaw relationship, and correct the Class Ⅱ mandibular retrusion.
