On Zhang Zhidong's Enterprise Spirit Embodied in the Establishment of the Hubei Firearms Factory

Zhang Zhidong,a senior official in the late Qing Dynasty and a rising star of Westernization Group,once made outstanding contributions to China's emerging modern industry.Upon analysis of the Hubei Firearms Factory,this paper makes an effort to illustrate Zhang Zhidong's enterprise spirit and presents the merits of the spirit: his ambition to establish a large,excellent and new-style factory,his courage to raise funds independently,his venture to introduce advanced equipment from western countries,and his determination to recruit many high-paid technicians.
