Abstract
Objective To study curative effect of microvascular decompression for the syndromes of cranial nerves including trigeminal neuralgia,hemifacial spasm and glossopharyngeal neuralgia induced by vascular compression. Methods The clinical data of 420 patients with the vascular compression syndromes of cranial nerves,who underwent microvascular decompression from 1999 to 2005 in our department,were analysed retrospectively. Of 420 patients with vascular decompression syndromes of cranial nerves,282 suffered from trigeminal neuralgia,120 hemifacial spasm and 18 glossopharynageal neualgia. Results The symptoms disappeared or were relieved in 406 patients with syndromes of cranial nerves and unchanged in 14 patients after the decompression. The total effec-tive rate was 96.67%. No patients died. Conclusion Microvascular decompression is effective method to treat syndromes of the cranial nerves induced by vascular decompression.
