Hu Shi on Living Literature

At the beginning of the 20th century Hu Shi abstracts the nature of the new with the term of literature and generalizes it in the two aspects of language tool and spiritual intension,holding that the language is to be living with plain vivid colloquialism and the spirit be living with true feelings and thoughts,which in his view is modern Chinese literature(folk literature).Its main achievement lies in the language style renovation.By literature Hu Shi gives expression to his literary view that content and form cannot be separated,form sometimes has decisive effect on content and its reform has important significance in literary history.
