Formative assessment is utilizing various means to evaluate students' learning process and situation in teaching,classroom activities and different kinds of tasks and it is an important basis for teachers to obtain the feedback of teaching,adjust teaching content,improve teaching methods and teaching quality,meanwhile,it can help students know their own development,adjust learning strategies,improve teaching efficiency and become better autonomous learners.In English major teaching,teachers should combine summative assessment and formative assessment organically and form students' final score at a proper proportion,making students value learning process as well as learning results and assess them objectively,fairly and resonably.
