Abstract

The traditional ancient houses in Mingxi is a living fossilfor the study of Hakka village construction in Northwestern Fujian Province during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. They are of great significance to learn so many architectural issues about Hakka during that time,such as Hakka social structure,social organization form and cultural psychology. This paper is concerned about an on- the- spot investigation of the present situation of Hakka people's traditional ancient houses in Mingxi. It analyzes its existing problems and puts forward some reconstruction opinions and measures from heat engineering,acoustics,optics and architectural design in the hope of being helpful for maintaining,upgrading and rebuilding Hakka people's traditional ancient houses.
