Abstract
Objective To study the correlation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) expression and angiogenesis in meningioma. Methods The hypoxia-inducible factor -1α(HIF-1α)expressed by immunohistochemical method in 48 patients of meningioma were compared with 10 patients with normal cerebral maters and CD34 endothelial antigen were used by SP immunohistochemical method to label new growth microvessel. The microvessel density(MVD) of tumors were calculated. Results The positive expression rate of HIF-1α was 79,among which the weak, moderate and strong positive expression rate were 33, 31 and 15 respectively. The MVD was 28±11(ranging from 6 to 55), the expression of HIF-1α in common cerebral maters were negative, MVD was 4±1(ranging from 3 to 5).The difference between HIF-1α and MVD in meningioma tissues and human common cerebral maters was significant(P0.01).The MVD in the negative, weak, moderate and strong HIF-1α expression samples were 11±7,23±10,36±13 and 47±15,MVD was positively correlated with HIF-1α expression(rs=0.766,P0.01) Conclusions The expression of HIF-1 in meningiomas is significantly correlated to tumors’ angiogenesis;Further studying for the mechanism of the HIF-1 expression and angiogenesis would lead to the new ways of meningiomas treatment.
