Abstract
Aim To investigate the real effect of atorvastatin on blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Methods 62 inpatients or follow-up out-patients with essential hypertension treated with regular antihypertensive drugs were assigned into two groups:control group(28 cases)and atorvastatin group(34 cases). Both control and atorvastatin groups took regular antihypertensive drugs, but the atorvastatin group took additional atorvastain from 10 mg to 40 mg,mean(13.9±6.1)mg·d-1,depending on blood lipid levels.Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(ABPM)was measured before and six months after treatment. Results No change of all measurements in control group was found after treatment. In atorvastatin group,24 h mean SBP of ABPM decreased significantly(P0.05).Six months and one year after treatment, there was no difference in diastolic blood pressure. Conclusion Atorvastatin can reduce SBP and pulse pressure in the patients of hypertension.
