Abstract

Objective: To provide anatomic data for reconstructing umbilicus. Methods: Umbilicus of normal 269 males and 288 females were observed randomly, and categorized on the basis of their shape, hood, and the protuberance in umbilicus socket. The sex differences of umbilicus were analyzed. Results: The outline of male umbilicus was round (42.4%) and oval (30.9%),and of female oval (32.6%) and vertical (31.9%). The presence of hood was 54.3 % in male, and 23.6% in female. 68.8% in male and 48.3% in female, there was at least one protuberance in umbilicus. Conclusions: The sex difference of umbilicus was significant for clinical reference during umbilicus reconstruction.
