An Approach to Poems on Paintings in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties

Abstract
Very often, the innovations of poetry in the Yuan and Ming dynasties were caused by poems on paintings, authors of which include Ni Zan, Wu Zhen, Wang Mian, Shen Zhou, Xu Wei and Tang Yen. General speaking, these poems were characteristic of the weakening preaching, the strengthening personal emotion, and the fresh, popular, fluent, amusing styles and forms, although the literary trends of the times already emphasized personal characters and emotions.
