Leadership Theory: the Present Situation、Trend and Future Directions

Abstract

Traditional leadership theory includes leadership trait theory、theory of leadership behavior and leadership contingency theory. The current new development of the leadership theory includes transformational leadership、distributed leadership、authentic leadership、relational leadership,etc. The development of leadership theory shows the following trends: from focusing on external situational factors to focusing on internal psychological factors、from centralized leadership to decentralized leadership、from efficiency first to moral superiority、from focusing on results to focusing on process,etc. With the development of leadership theory,the research of leadership toward gender 、cross-culture and the research through interdisciplinary will be the future focus of leadership theory.
