Preliminary analysis of Percutaneous core needle biopsy of limb bone tumors

Objective The percutaneous core needle biopsy(PCNB) has many advantages over open biopsy.The study aims to investigate the accuracy and the advantages of this procedure for bone tumors.Methods The biopsy was performed with Biomed core needle on 224 patients who sustained bone tumors in their limbs.The results were compared with those of the open biopsy,and the final pathological diagnosis.Results A total of 205 specimens(91.52%) were determined to be adequate for histological examination.The overall accuracy was 91.52% when adequate specimens were obtained,and 96% of the spicimens could be differentiated from benign lesions to malignant tumors.There was no severe morbidity related to the procedure.Conclusions The results indicate that percutaneous core needle biopsy is safe and has highly accurate for diagnosing bone tumors.
