Effectiveness of oral health education program among junior school students

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of oral health education program on oral health among middle school students,and to formulate a better oral health education model.Methods Students of grade one from four junior middle schools in Liwan District,Guangzhou were randomly appointed as intervention and control groups.Intervention group students received a sequence of oral health education weekly,and control group students did not receive any education.Oral health and oral health behaviors were investigated before and after intervention.Results The awareness rate on oral health-related knowledge of intervention group students was 95.4%.The incidence of oral dental caries has been effectively controlled(1.0%),and the filling rate of decayed teeth was 83.1%.Except the mean of DMFT,the filling rate increased and DI-S,CI-S and GI decreased significantly in intervention group compared with control.Conclusion School oral health education could promote oral health effectively among middle school students.
