Abstract

Objective To explore the impact of smoking on semen quality. Methods 120 infertile men were divided into 3 groups according to smoking quantity and duration:A day smoking10,and smoked ≤1 year;B day smoking10-20,and smoked 5-10 years;C day smoking ≥20 and smoking age ≥10 years.95 control cases were recruited in the study.Parameters of their semen,MDA content in seminal plasma and sperm apoptosis rate were detected. Results The sperm motility in the infertile smoker group was significantly lower than that in the infertile non-smoker group, the sperm apoptosis and seminal plasma MDA content were significantly increased;C group sperm motility was significantly lower than B group and A group, while the sperm apoptosis and seminal plasma MDA content were significantly increased. Conclusion Smoking can increase the content of reactive oxygen species in seminal plasma and sperm apoptosis rate, seriously affecting the quality of semen.
