Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and early-phase insulin secretion or insulin resistance in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus( T2DM) patients. Methods Methods 86 male patients with newly diagnosed T2DM were included. 58 men were recruited as healthy controls. All subjects were tested the levels of 25OHD,HbA1c,FBG. Arginine insulin stimulation test was performed for evaluation β cell insulin-secretion function. Results 25OHD,HOMA-β and the early-phaseinsulin secretion in response to Arginine stimulation were significantly lower in diabetes group compared with those of control group( P 0. 05); conversely,the levels of TG,FPG,HbA1c,HOMA-IR,SPB were significantly higher in diabetes group( P 0. 01). 25OHD levels were inversely correlated with HbA1c,BMI and HOMA-IR,and positively correlated with insulin peak value( P 0. 05). 25OHD levels were positively correlated with HOMA-β even after the adjustment of BMI( P 0. 05). Conclusions In newly diagnosed T2DM patients,serum vitamin D levels are relatively lower than those of healthy controls. The deficiency of vitamin D could be a factor leading to impairment of cell early-phase insulin-secretion and insulin resistance.
