Abstract

Changes in growth and physiological indexes of Sasa versicolor under different light intensities were measured to explore the effects of illumination intensity on the growth and ornamental forms. Results showed that under full sunlight in greenhouse, the number of new leaves approached a maximum of 11,while under 25% shading only 3 new leaves were formed. The average stem height increment amounted to 4.48 cm under 50% shading, whereas it was only 1.63cm under 25% shading.Chlorophyll a+b,chlorophyll a,chlorophyll b increased with the increase of shading.Under 25% shading, chlorophyll a+b,chlorophyll a,chlorophyll b were the highest, being 106.3%,101.9%,110% of the control respectively, and chlorophyll a/b rate under 25% shading dropped the most.SOD activities first increased and then decreased under 50% shading, yet gradually increased always under 25% shading and full sunlight. The changes in POD activities under 50% shading and the control were just in opposite, under 25% shading it first increased and then decreased.Thus,50% shading will not only promote the growth of Sasa versicolor but also be favorable to the expression of ornamental forms.
