Abstract
By discussing the functional motifs of four protein superfamilies in all β class proteins,the results indicate that the similar structural motifs in Immunoglobulin and Fibronectin type Ⅲ superfamily have different functions.There are many types of sequence motifs in PH domain-like superfamily and Nucleic acid-binding proteins superfamily,but these little similar structural motifs have the same function in their respective superfamily.A statistical method is used to analyse the hydropathy,physicochemical and structural properties of motifs.The results show that the amino acid residues with significant difference are present in the conservative sites of sequence motifs and the same sequence motifs have the similar secondary structure of proteins.These correlated regularities will have some helps for the further identifying of different protein superfamilies and the related researches.
