Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of budesonide on substance P(SP) in the nasal models with allergic rhinitis. Methods Thirty Wistar rats were randomly divided into three experimental groups(10 in each):normal control group, allergic rhinitis model group, and budesonide group. The allergic rhinitis models of rats were established by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin(OVA) and nasal challenge with OVA.Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was used to observe the pathologic histology of nasal mucosa. Results The expression of SP in nasal mucosa was observed with immunohistochemical techniques. In allergic rhinitis model group, the infiltration of inflammatory cells were observed. The expressions of SP in allergic rhinitis model group were significantly higher compared with that in control group and budesonide group(P0.05).There was no significant difference between the control group and budesonide group. Conclusion Budesonide can inhibit the release of SP in the nasal mucosa with allergic rhinitis and reduce nasal inflammation.
