Abstract

The present paper reports the chromosome numbers and karyotypes of 3 species of the genus Aspidistra from China. The results are as follows:(1) A.zongbayes: 2n=2x=38=18m+4sm(2sat)+16st;(2) A.omeiensis: 2n=2x=38=18m+6sm(2sat)+12st+2t;(3) A.hainanensis: 2n=2x=38=20m+4sm(2sat)+14st.The chromosome number and karyotype of A.hainanensis are reported for the first time. All species above have bimodal karyotypes belonging to 2C of Stebbins' karyotype classification.
