Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of nm23 - H1 gene in human breast cancer. Methods A semi - quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was performed to detect the expressions of nm23- H1 mRNA in thirty specimens from human breast cancer. Results (1) The nm23 - H1 mRNA gene expression in primary breast cancer tissue with lymph node metastasis was lower than that without lymph node metastasis. The nm23 - H1 mRNA level in stage I and II breast cancer was higher than that in stage III. (2)Multivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between nm23 - H1 mRNA expression and lymph node metastasis. Conclusions There is a significantly inverse correlation between nm23 - H1 mRNA and lymph node metastasis. Nm23 - H1 appears to play a more important role in the process of metastasis in breast cancer.
