Abstract
Transesterification of cottonseed oil with methanol was carried out with KOH as catalyst.A study for optimizing the transesterification reaction conditions were performed, such as reaction temperature, the molar ratio of the oil to methanol, the amount of catalyst, and the selection of co-solvent.The optimization of the reaction was the molar ratio of 6∶1 and 1.0% KOH(to oil) at 60℃.In this condition the conversion of the reaction could reached 97.8%.The analytical methods included gas chromatography and the determination of fat and oil conventional parameters.Their influences on output power, fuel consumption and emission characteristics of a turbocharged diesel engine when burning various fuels were studied through comparison.
