On the Inception of Jin Dialect

Abstract

In 1985 Professor Li Rong for the first time proposes that those dialects possessing Rusheng in Shanxi Province and its adjacent areas be separated from the Mandarin and taken as Jin dialect.While Ding Bangxin and Wang Futang do not agree to take Jin Dialect as one of the ten dialects along with Mandarin,instead they propose to regard it as a sub-dialect.This paper holds that we should first of all delineate the early period of its development,and Jin Dialect can be separated from the Mandarin if we utilize the standard of its early period of development.
