Abstract

objective To investigate the expression of E CD and CD44V6 and their clinical significance in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods E CD and CD44V6 expressions were determined in paraffin embedded tissues from 58 cases with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by immunohistochemical methods. Forty two cases were followed up for 3 years. Results Low expression of E CD and over expression of CD44V6 were closely related with the invasion, metastasis, recurrence and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma ( P 0.05).The correlation was observed between low E CD expression and cellular differentiation ( P 0.05).No significant correlation was found between E CD expression and CD44V6 expression in these patients ( P 0.05).Conclusions The expressions of E CD and CD44V6 correlate with the development, invasion, metastasis and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. No correlation of E CD and CD44V6 expression is demonstrated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, suggesting that as independent function regulating factors in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma E CD and CD44V6 can be regarded as important signs of invasion?metastasis and prognosis.
