Abstract
This paper establishes a design method of asphalt pavement structure based on pavement performance in the light of the asphalt pavement performance equation, the optimizing criteria of the method is the minimum construction cost or the minimum total cost during the whole design life. The method makes progress comparing to the traditional mechanistic or empiristic design method. The paper makes a brief depiction on the foundation of the method, design parameters, design process and characters of the method.
