Abstract
In this paper theoretical analysis on short term flicker severity that is an important index of power quality in the standards of IEC is carried out. With detailed study on the theoretical calculation of short term flicker severity, a novel digital method of calculating instantaneous perceptibility p and short term flicker severity Pst is deduced. This method not only can be used in the analysis and calculation of power quality, but also in the theoretical deduction of voltage fluctuation and voltage flicker. This method has been applied to typical calculation example and a good result is obtained, thus, the accuracy of this method is proved.
