Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of PDD and 5 FU in different dose combined radiotherapy to treat advanced esophageal carcinoma. Methods:From February 1993 to September 1994,83cases of advanced esophageal carcinoma were randomly divided into three groups:high dose group(high dose chemotherapy combined radiotherapy),low dose group(low dose chemotherapy combined radiotherapy),and radiotherapy alone group.Resuits:①The recent response rates were85 7%,75.0%and 37 0% for high dose group, low dose group and radiotherapy alone group,respectively.②The 1-,3-and 5-year survival rate were 71.4%,35.7%and 21.4%of high dose group,67.9%,39.3% and 25.0%of low dose group,40.7%,22.2%and 11.1%of radiotherapy alone group,respectively.③The main toxicity(grade3-4):myelosuppression and gastrointestinal effects were 46.4%and 39.3%of high dose group,10.7%and 3.6% of low dose group.Conclusions:①The recent efficacy of the high and low dose groups were better than that of radiotherapy alone group( P 0.05).There was no significant difference between high and low dose groups.②The toxicity in high dose group was more serious than low dose group( P 0.05).③PDD and 5 FU in low dose combined radiotherapy to treat esophageal carcinoma is worth for clinical applications due to its positive efficacy, poor toxicity and conventional treatment.
