Clinical study of efficacy of radiotherapy combined with synchronous chemotherapy in treating esophagus cancer

Objective To study the efficacy and side effect of radiotherapy combined with sychronous chemotherapy in treating esophageal cancer.Methods Ninty-five cases of esophageal cancers were randomly divided into two groups.The conventional radiotherapy group(48 cases) received routine radiotherapy at dosage of 1.8-2.0 Gy per day,5 times a week to a total dose of 60-65 Gy in 6-7 weeks.The radiotherapy plus chemotherapy group(47 cases)was treated with radiotherapy as radiotherapy group,and at beginning of radiotherapy and radiation dose to 36-40 Gy,the patients also received chemotherapy with 750 mg/d fluorouracil(5-Fu)for 5 d;20 mg/d cisplatin(DDP)for 5 d and 100 mg/d calcium folinate(CF)for 5 d.Results The short-term CR+PR of CT+RT group and RT group respectively were 95.8% and 83.4%(χ2=3.88,P0.05).The rate of side effect in CT+RT group was higher than that in RT group.Conclusions The results showed that the efficacy of radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy in treating advanced esophageal cancer is better than that of radiotherapy alone and can improve the survival rate.
