Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of hyperuricemia and type 2 diabetes on metabolic syndrome The possible mechanism will be discussed Methods We analysed all the clinical data of 124 patients with hyperuricemia and 56 type 2 diabetic patients with normal serum uric acid (SUA) concentration Results The prevalences of hyperuricemia in diabetes and impaired glucose regulation (IGR) group were higher than those in normal glucose group (43 5% and 33 9% vs 22 6%) Hyperuricemia was closely associated with obesity and hypertriglyceridemia in our study In group with hyperuricemia and diabetes, the body mass index (BMI), triglyceride (TG) and the prevalences of CHD and hypertension were higher than those in normal glucose group BMI,TG, total cholesterol (TC) and the prevalence of CHD and hypertension were higher in hyperuricemia group than those in the normal SUA group Conclusions (1)Hyperuricemia is associated with obesity and dyslipidemia (hypertriglyceride and hypercholesterol) (2) Hyperuricemia makes the metabolic disorder worse in diabetes patients, and diabetes also makes the metabolic disorder worse in hyperuricemia patients Hyperuricemia and diabetes alone or in combination advance atherosclerosis, CHD and hypertension
