Abstract
Objective Nano- fermorite was tested by in vitro cytotoxicity as first step for future use of this material as orthopedic implant. Methods Mouse fibroblast L929 cells were cultured in the medium of extraction of nano- fermorite at 100 %, 50 % and 0 % (control) respectively for 2, 4, 7days. The morphologic change of the cells were observed by the inverted phase contrast microscope. Cell growth was tested by MTT assay and the cell relative growth rate(RGR) was calculated. The cytotoxicity was graded by generally accepted standard. Results During all culture periods, L929 cells showed normal morphology and proliferation increased with culture time. The toxicity gradation of all groups was 0-1. The OD value of cells was similar for the negative control and the extracts (p0.05). Conclusion The results indicate that nano- fermorite is compatible with the tested cells.
