Abstract

Objective: To observe the long-term curative effect of endoscopic sinus surgery(ESS).Method: Seventy-five cases(125 sides) of chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps were treated with ESS,and were followed up for 1 year after operation. Results: Fourty-eight cases were cured(64.0%),20 achieved symptomatic relief(26.7%),7 remained failure(9.3%),and the response rate was 90.7%.The major operative complication was adhesion of nasal cavity. Conclusion: ESS has an ideal effect on chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps.Careful treatment of middle turbinate, inferior turbinate and nasal septum, and regular follow-up are important to reduce complications.
