Abstract

As mechanical seal used in the tail shaft of small underwater vehicle for studying,a two-dimensional axisymmetric model was presented for a hydrostatic mechanical seal(PHS-MS) with parabola face;Considering the effects of sealed fluid viscosity varying with temperature and pressure, finite difference method was used to obtain the joint solution for the Reynolds equation, energy equation, thermal conduction equation and other equations;Sealing performance parameters was compared between PHS-MS and hydrostatic mechanical seal within convergent face(CHS-MS) at same geometry and environmental parameters, the results show that the leakage is smaller than CHS-MS,and it makes underwater vehicle much safer; The effect of surface structure parameters on the performance of PHS-MS was studied, and the optimal parameters were obtained.
