Discourse markers are the language markers which a speaker chooses to lead and restrict a listener's right understanding of discourse, the choice is closely related to relevance theory. This paper tries to employ relevance theory to explore the pragmatic cognitive restriction of discourse markers, analyzing the pragmatic restrictive functions of discourse markers towards the discourse production, discourse understanding and discourse cohesion and revealing the cognitive psychological gist for using the discourse markers.
