Effects of Yiqimingmu solution on models of ischemia reperfusion injury in rats retina

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the experimental therapeutic effects of traditionou chinese Medicine Yiqimingmu so- lution on rats models with retinal ischemia reperfusion(RIR)injury induced by high intraocular pressure.METHODS Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into:normal control group,retinal ischemia reperfusion injury model group,Yiqimingmu solution group.High intraocular pressure was induced by anterior chambers infusing with liquid to mate RIR injury model.Distilled wa- ter and Yiqimingmu solution were respectively given orally to the rats for 7 days before ischemia reperfusion injury.On the 7th day after RIR injury,the change of electroretinogram was observed,the content of malondialdehyde(MDA)and activity of su- peroxide dismutase(SOD)in rats retina were measured,and the histopathologic changes were observed with transmission elec- tron microscopy and light microscopy.RESULTS On the 7th day after RIR injury,Yiqimingmu solution had protective effect on fall of ERG a wave and b wave amplitude induced by RIR injury.The activity of SOD in Yiqimingmu solution group was higher than in RIR model group(P0.01),the content of MDA in Yiqimingmu solution group was lower than in RIR injury model group(P0.01).The histopathologic injury of rats' retina in Yiqimingmu solution group was slighter than in RIR injury model group by means of transmission electron microscopy and light microscopy.CONCLUSION Yiqimingmu solution has protective effect on rats retina ischemia reperfusion injury,and is an effective traditional Chinese medicine to treat diseases of retinal ischemia reperfusion injury.
