Abstract

Objective To evalutate the effect of phakic intraocular lens implantation for high myopia. Methods Eighteen eyes with-10~-22 diopters of myopia were implanted with the intraocular lenses. These eyes then were checked with uncorrected visual acuity, corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure(IOP) and corneal endothelial cells for 12 months post surgery. Results All surgeries of the 18 eyes were successful. The uncorrected visual acuity was 0.01~0.1 pre-operatively.The corrected visual acuity was improved to 0.4 in 83.33%,and 0.6 in 50.00%,to 0.4 in 88.88%,and 0.6 in 77.77% of those patients post-operatively in one day and one year,respectively.Pre-and post-operative IOP were(12.68±0.46)mmHg and(13.59±0.81)mmHg respectively.Endothelial cells were(3 381±289)/mm2 and(3 107±278)/mm2,with no significant difference. Conclusion The implantation of phakic intraocular lens for high myopia is effective, safe and predictable.
