Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between express ions of estrogen receptor(ER) and progesterone receptor(PR) in uterine leiomyoma ,its adjacent sites and myometrium with the uterine leiomyoma. Methods Expressions of ER and PR in uterine leiomyom, its adjacent site and myome trium were determined by immunohistochemical SP method in 30 patients with uteri ne leiomyoma.and serum prolactin(PRL),follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),luteiniz ing hormone(LH),estradiol(E 2),progesterone(P) and testosterone(T) concentrati ons were measured with radiommunoassay, with normal cycling women served as the controls.Results:(1) contents of ER and were significantly higher in leiomyoma than in its adjacent site and myometrium (P0.01, P0.05). (2) Contents of PR were significantly higher in its adjacent site than that in m yometrium(P0.05).(3) Serum sex hormone levels were not significantly diffe rent from patients before operation and the controls (P0.05).Conclus ion The growth of uterine leiomyoma is associated with strong expression of ER,PR in uterine tissuse. When myometrectomy is performed, the myometrium aroun d the leiomyoma should be cut at the same time.
