Abstract

The friction and wear properties of PTFE composites filled with nano-SiC, nano-SiC-graphite or nano-SiC-MoS2 against 45# steel under dry conditions were studied using MM-200 wear tester. The hardness of the materials was examined using HR-150A Shore hardness tester, the frictional surface was observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). It showed that the addition of nano-SiC increased the wear resistance and hardness of PTFE. When a mixture of nano-SiC and MoS2 was used, the wear resistance of PTFE was remarkably enhanced, especially at high loads. The friction coefficient of nano-SiC filled PTFE decreased with increasing load, which could be further reduced by introducing MoS2 and graphite.
