Abstract

Objective To evaluate clinical and refractive results of the implantation of phakic anterior chamber intraocular lens(IOL) for high myopia.Methods A consecutive group of 40 eyes in 22 patients with high myopia of-8.50 to-32.00 diopters(D) underwent the implantation of phakic anterior chamber intaocular lens.Results All of the 40 eyes received the implatation of IOL successfully and were followed up for 12 months on average.No IOL was taken out in any cases.The uncorrected visual acuity was from FC/20 cm to 0.08 preoperatively and 0.2~1.2 12 months postoperatively.The best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was 0.2~1.0 preoperatively and 0.2~1.2 12 months postoperatively.No postoperative BCVA was worse than the preoperative ones.There was no significant difference on the intraocular pressure(IOP)(t=0.40,P0.05).The mean counts of endothelial cells were(3162±286)mm2 preoperatively and(3096±147)mm2 12 months postoperatively.There was no significant difference(t=1.29,P0.05) with decrease of 2.09%.The contrast sensitivity function(CSF) and glare sensitivity function(GSF) had been more obviously improved postoperatively than that of pre-operation in low,mid and high frequency sect.No cataract,angle adhesion or neovascularization occurred.Conclusions The implantation of phakic anterior chamber IOL for high myopia is safe,efficient,predictable and reversible.The vision recovers quickly,without any severe complications.
