Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinicopathologicl features and immunological phenotype of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor(PEComa). Methods Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical assay were used to observe the characteristics of 14 cases of PEComa. Results Among those patients 5 patients were males and 9 were females. No postoperative recurrence was found in all the patients.Tumors could occur in any organs of the body, but mostly in liver and kidney. Most of these tumors were encapsulated and solid. The growth of spindle and blent epithelioid cells around the blood vessels was typical histological change with various amount of adipose tissues, the vessels having thin or thick walls.Immunohistochemical study revealed that all tumors were significantly expressed by HMB45 and Melan-A,while the positive rate of Ki-67 was not high. Conclusion PEComa is a rare tumor, which has its unique histological morphological characteristics.Immunohistochemical detection may be helpful to diagnosis.
