Selection of Leading Industry of Urban Agriculture in Taiyuan City

Urban agriculture is an important form of modern agriculture in China.The leading industries are very important in the procession of urban agriculture development.The article reviews the theory about leading industries and selection criteria.Based on the theory of comparative advantage,adopting the method of location quotient and revealed symmetric comparative advantage (RSCA),the article analyzes the comparative advantages of agricultural sub-sectors in Taiyuan over surrounding provinces.The result shows that the region that is superior in characterized agriculture are Jiancaoping district,Qingxu county and Xiaodian district,the region that is superior in forestry is Yingze district,Xinghualing district and Loufan county and the region that is superior in fishery is Jinyuan district,Yingze district and Loutan county.Consequently,in combination with advantages of natural resources and location,the overall arrangement of industrial development in urban agriculture in Taiyuan can be categorized into four different cycles:circle of sightseeing and leisure agriculture,circle of characterized agriculture,circle of sci-tech demonstration agriculture and circle of cooperative agriculture,which is an important task for Taiyuan for adjusting industrial structure and making industrial development policy in the new period.
