Phase II clinical trial of Shichuangqing ointment in treatment of subacute eczema

Objective: To study the efficacy and safety of Shichuangqing ointment,a traditional Chinese medicine,in treatment of subacute eczema.Methods: In a randomized,double blind,controlled multicenter phase II clinical trial,totally 203 patients were divided into two groups.Of the patients,201 completed the trial who were treated with Shichuangqing ointment(n=101) or Binghuangfule ointment(another traditional Chinese medicine as the control,n=100) twice daily for 2 weeks.Results: The total response rates were 83.2% in Shichuangqing ointment group and 79.0% in Binghuangfule ointment group,respectively.No statistical difference was observed between two groups(P0.05).The improvements of symptoms were similar,and no detected adverse effects were found in both groups.Conclusion: Shichuangqing ointment shows the satisfactory efficacy and safety profile in treatment of subacute eczema.
